It's what we use here at TDF. Red Runners are perfect for Tarantula slings, jumpers, and any invertebrate that feeds on insects. Unlike other roach species these do not burrow into the substrate and disappear, and are unable to climb smooth surfaces.
For .50" Slings use .25" Red Runners
For .75" to 1.0" Slings use .50" Red Runners
For 1.5" to 2" Slings use .75" Red Runners
For 2.5" and up use 1.0" Red Runners
Red Runner Roaches make the best feeders, they never borrow into the substrate and disappear. They are high protein and will grow your sling strong & healthy. They can't climb glass or any other smooth surfaces. This makes them very easy to manage and they will never hurt your sling like crickets can and will. They rarely stop moving, In fact they run around the enclosure non stop like a meth head until they get ambushed.
Keeping them is very simple. Use any smooth surface tub so they cannot climb out, no scratches and at least 8" high. Pack down firmly some moist coco coir or peat moss, about 1" after packed down. Use paper egg crates for their hides.
Important Note: Don't allow your Red Runners to out grow your sling, only water them so they do not molt and grow larger, this happens quick if you feed the runners They will out grow the size required for your sling. Spray the packed down substrate as mentioned above every 2 days or so to hydrate your feeders. They can live for months with no food but they need water. Best feeders ever if your follow this info.
