Native to the deserts of the southwestern United States, especially Arizona, is a hardy and unique pet invertebrate known for its striking powdery blue coloration and the quirky behavior of "playing dead" when threatened. They’re easy to care for, long-lived, and great for beginners or invertebrate enthusiasts.
- Lifespan: 8–15 years in captivity
- Size: 1.5 to 2.2 inches
- Temperament: Docile, slow-moving, not aggressive
- Handling: Safe to handle occasionally, but they prefer being left alone
- Temperature: 75–85°F (24–29°C)
- Night drop: Not necessary, but safe to let drop to ~68°F (20°C)
- Humidity: Low (15–30% is ideal
- Avoid misting! High humidity dulls their blue color and may lead to mold or health issues.
- Provide a small moist hide if breeding or for shedding support (not required otherwise).
- Main diet: Vivarium Naturals Nutra-Pede Powder 4 oz, JAR , Crushed Dog Food, Yellow Squash
- Treats: Leaf litter, dandelion leaves, bee pollen
- Water: Don’t offer a water dish. Provide moisture through veggies a couple of times per week.
