This species originates from the Kon Chu Rang nature reserve in Vietnam.
The Giant Flame Leg Tree Millipede, Alienostreptus bicoloripes, is a stunning tropical species from Vietnam known for its fiery leg coloration, glossy segmented body, and impressive adult size. This beautiful Southeast Asian millipede has become increasingly desirable among invertebrate keepers for its exotic appearance and calm, slow-moving nature. They are found both during the day and at night. The areas they inhabit are waterlogged and after frequent rains the water level rises and covers most of the habitat. They spend much of their time in the trees during flooding.
Large specimens develop vivid orange-to-red leg coloration beneath a darker body, creating a dramatic “flame leg” contrast that stands out beautifully against moss, bark, and leaf litter in naturalistic vivarium setups. During humid evenings, adults often emerge to slowly explore the enclosure surface, making them excellent display millipedes.
Like many forest millipedes, Alienostreptus bicoloripes functions as a natural decomposer, feeding on decaying hardwood, leaves, and organic matter while helping recycle nutrients within the enclosure ecosystem.

This species is an arboreal millipede and also will burrow from time to time, but mostly resides on the surface, loves to climb.
Replicating this environment in captivity helps encourage natural activity and long-term health.

Temperature: 72–80°F
-
Humidity: Moderate to high humidity

Feeding
Alienostreptus bicoloripes feeds primarily on decomposing plant matter and forest debris. A healthy enclosure should always contain natural food sources such as leaf litter and rotting hardwood, yellow squash once a week. Stay away from high water fruits, e.g. cucumber, melon rinds, and high sugar produce.
Supplemental foods may include:
-
Yellow Squash
-
Vivarium Naturals - Nutra-Pede Millipede Nutriment Powder
-
Occasional calcium-rich foods
Decayed hardwood and leaf litter should remain available at all times as a primary dietary component.
