Native to the Tropical Forests of Vietnam

Balustreptus falcatus is native to the humid forests of Vietnam, a country recognized as one of Southeast Asia's biodiversity hotspots. Vietnam's landscape ranges from towering limestone karst mountains and mist-covered cloud forests to dense lowland tropical rainforests that receive abundant seasonal rainfall.

Much of the country's forest ecosystem is layered with towering hardwood trees, dense bamboo stands, thick mosses, vines, and countless epiphytic plants. Constant warmth and high humidity allow fallen timber and leaf litter to decompose year-round, creating one of the richest habitats on Earth for fungi, insects, millipedes, and countless other decomposers.

Within these forests, arboreal millipedes like Balustreptus falcatus utilize both the forest floor and elevated surfaces, often traveling across bark, rotting logs, and standing trees while searching for decaying organic material.
